After the Rain
After the rain ran its course, The city crawled from its covers. And shook off the droplets, Like some huge hound. A million mouths Of worn out drains, Strained to swallow The afternoon deluge. A smell as new as birth, Rose from the wet; Passing through nostrils Of steaming sidewalks. Stepping from our doorway protection Into rays of found again sunshine, We walked to the corner crosswalk And entered a street called life.
