Christ Forming Questions
Thought-provoking and theologically robust questions that help persons in their formation journey to become more like Christ.
The questions presented here each week cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no” OR with a “standard Sunday School answer.” They are designed to make you think and think deeply. My desire is not only to present you with the question that will deepen your spiritual formation, but also to create a platform for discussion. Click the comment icon below and enter your answers. Then others and I can enter into a discussion with you.
This coming Sunday, I will begin teaching on 2 Peter.
Today’s questions come from 2 Peter 1:2 - “May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” (2 Peter 1:2 CSB)
Peter prays that grace and peace might be multiplied in our lives. He links this multiplication to our growth in the knowledge of God and of Jesus, our Lord.
Why does the "knowledge" that Peter mentions need to go beyond just having intellectual information (Biblical information and facts)?
If change is more than just knowing Biblical content and then trying harder, how can we achieve the true interior change that produces greater grace and peace in our lives?

Head knowledge is wonderful, but if it doesn’t make a difference in your heart, your motives and your actions, it’s pretty worthless. There are many learned professors, pastors, scholars who read, teach and study the Bible, but who have no relationship with the Author . They teach it as history, but don’t believe (have faith) in its accuracy or believe it was inspired by God. They are “learned” academically but “ignorant” spiritually, so their head knowledge of the Bible doesn’t in anyway change or sanctify them.
We can’t try hard enough or do enough to be changed internally on our own, but if we abide in God & let His Word abide in us, and cooperate with the Holy Spirit, then (over time—it’s a process) He can transform & sanctify us and by His grace He brings spiritual growth & peace.
