Monday Missive #26
A Poem: Stepping Off the Stage
“Out, out brief candle!
Life’s but a walking shadow,
A poor-player that struts and
Frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more…”
(McBeth Act 5, Scene 3)
We walked upon this stage,
Hoping to have mastered our lines;
Playing our parts of grief and joy;
Trying to relive the best scenes.
We acted as if the play lasts forever;
But now our light grows dim,
The candle fades,
The curtain comes down.
We exit this stage,
Only to walk upon another;
It does not matter what our critics say;
For we acted only for the author of life,
And hope we played our parts well.
A Prayer: For Finishing Strong
Gracious Father, Help me to finish strong In this life, this world; That I might step into the next, Embraced by you, And hear, “Well done!” Help me balance Now and then. Help me see Your where, Your what, Your how Of this day; While looking toward eternity.
A Passage: For Reflection
"The master said, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let's celebrate together!' (Matthew 25:23 NLT)
